Are there any webmasters here who are satisfied with the service they are getting from their hosting provider and would be willing to recommend their services ? I'm looking for a hosting service, and price / bandwith issues are important. Can any webmasters here recommend a service, preferrably UK or N.America ? I've seen a UK based service "Freedom 2 Surf" and their prices seem good, but I'd appreciate having some extra nformation from other sources. TIA for any help. John |

Give a price range, and if you're looking for ASP, Java, PHP, etc and i'm sure lots of people will give you some good options. |

Google any ISP for reviews before signing up with them. |

Buddylee – Basic HTML webpages, but with space for lots of images – ASP, Java, PHP not necessary. The company in the UK that I've seen offer their webhosting services for GBP 24.00 p.a., with 200Mb of space, so that's basically price I'd be looking at. What I'm more concerned about is support and bandwidth. Black Hat – I just took a look at hostgator.com – thanks for the thumbs-up on their after-sales support. |

For basic stuff there are lots of good hosts. One of the best places to get real reviews is webhostingtalk.com. If you find a host you're interested in, search for them in their forums and you'll probably find quite a few reviews and opinions. I personally haven't had good luck finding a low cost host, generally the "you get what you pay for" mantra seems to hold fairly well. But at the same time you don't want to spend more than you have to. people I've talked to seem to really like bluehost.com although I've never used them. I have used knownhost.com, they seem pretty fair, but at $5/month they're going to be a little higher than you want to spend. |

I use lunarpages.com and have no problems over the 4 years I have been there. 400gig per month bandwidth is well beyond what my semi-popular site needs, price is $6.95 USD per month with a year commitment but you do get a free domain name registration and renewal with that. They focus a lot on customer service and when I have had questions, they have replied via email within an hour, usually faster but they do have phone help too. They do have reps online around the world so whatever your local time or area someone is online to help with your problem. Check out their forums for comments and questions and answers from new or potential users. lunarforums.com/forum |

Well thanks all for the information, most appreciated. The only other thing, if anyone could possibly clarify, is the following : "Currently we limit bandwidth indirectly by restricting the CPU usage of your website. This is set to 126mhz" In real terms, what would that actually mean ? I asked a colleague from work in our IT dept., but he really couldn't really give me a clear answer
.. TIA for any possible help. John |
