Eleanor Louise Meier was born at 3:58 thursday morning. She is in fine fettle, eating well and expelling with regularity. Her mother is recovering nicely and she and I thank you all for your good wishes and concern.

For the statistically minded she is 8 pounds 4 ounces and just over 20 inches long and is said to resemble her father except that she has more hair. Her father thinks she looks more like Leo McKearn (the actor who played Rumpole of the Bailey) but accepts this is probably and thankfully a temporary resemblance owing to her head's having recently passed through the birth canal.

ELM…I like it…beautiful name, she must be a Wood Elf…try to remember when she's around to look up every once in a while to see if there's anyone else in the room, because you'll easily forget there's anyone else in your life but ELM and your wife. Congratulations!

The best gift that you can give her as she grows up is your time. Spend it wisely, and you will be rewarded by a great relationship with her when she's an adult.
