How about "Ho Chi Minhs (ie sandals made with car and truck tires for soles) of North Vietnamese general officers?"
Far too many pages revealing how sandals made from unused snow tires were full dress items for divisional commanders and above.

I have just recieved word of an entire new Osprey series: "Supply Corps Heroes." The first two anticipated titles are #1 "Vietnam era Junior Officers in tropical polyester uniforms who charged enlisted men for equipment lost in combat." #2 "WWII German and Romanian Clerks in stolen boots intended for front line troops." Also in the works:"U.S. Naval speed typing Yoemnan and Storekeeper Cahmpions, V. 1 1894-1924."

Elite Series:
The Reichsmarschal Herman Goering: His life, His uniforms, His big trainset vols: 1-40

From the blurb:
'Meticulously researched material on the dress and habits of this important Nazi potentate. Including valuable photos of Goering's infamous jewel studded girdle and sandles, never before published photos of Goering in a toga, Goering slobbed out on opium in the final stages of the war etc.
During his years of research the author made history by being the first man imprisoned for stalking a dead person.'

Amusing piece in paper this am about wartime forger Van Meegeren. Apparently someone broke it to Goering in custody before he died that his Vermeer was not really by the Man from Delft and re reacting by looking like 'he'd discovered that there was evil in the world for the very first time'!

Bigelow – As my elderly mother has been inflicted with Parkinson's Disease for the last three years and I have had to sort many things out for her, perhaps you will think before shooting your mouth off.

For everyone else, you should be amused to know that Osprey featured this thread in its latest newsletter for authors, retailers etc. They said that Polish spoons will not be published!

Any Comment from OSPREY on C19th Austrian (3) Artillery?

sgt bilko23 Aug 2006 4:37 p.m. PST

Cooper – Osprey cancelled the idea at the time the other two were published due to poor sales.

CooperSteveatWork29 Aug 2006 7:16 a.m. PST

'scuse me, I bought them! Maybe no-one bought the first 2 because they were waiting for all-arms?

1848 187130 Aug 2006 7:40 a.m. PST

How about The Military Events of the World on 27 August 1530 (and so on, and so on).
Incidentally, CooperSteve, if you don't see the Osprey book on 19th-century Austrian artillery it's probably because the first two tried to do too much at once. Compressing 30 years of any other country's military history which included three major wars in one small book "does not compute." I think Opsrey just didn't have the interest for anything more of this sort

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx31 Aug 2006 2:37 p.m. PST

I suspect the problem was simply that having painted the figures, there was no Campaign book to go with it – ie: Koniggratz. They seem to struggle a bit with bundling!

How About:

CooperSteveatWork07 Sep 2006 9:55 a.m. PST

"I think Opsrey just didn't have the interest for anything more of this sort"

This is not exactly 'obscure' history. Do OSPREY not have a German/Central European market? Not to mention Italian and Danish?

CooperSteveatWork07 Sep 2006 9:56 a.m. PST

Konigratz was not exactly a ruck in a pub car park on Saturday night in Basingstoke…

Didn't the author WANT to complete the series?

1848 187108 Sep 2006 7:23 a.m. PST

It seems to me the main difficulty involved with the Austrian army during the 19th century is that its country no longer exists, and thus it can't be looked at in terms of current history, whatever that is. Discussion about the topic is therefore likely to be somewhat "academic," for want of a better word. And if we are talking about the saleability of titles which treat the military history of central Europe during the 19th century, it may be because it does not involve anyone who spoke English. I also suspect that the author may have wanted to complete his work, but since Osprey was unahppy with the sales they forgot about him.

Supercilius Maximus08 Sep 2006 7:50 a.m. PST

Osprey have long resisted a separate title on German troops in the AWI, so it's not just about "English-speaking" history, I suspect.

CooperSteveatWork08 Sep 2006 9:55 a.m. PST

Lets hope he does his own thing in similar format…
