So, I just saw Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk" for the first time.

Wow.

Yes, it had a fair number of flaws and anachronisms, and yes, the weird distension of the timeline (1 week on the beach vs. 1 day on the water vs. 1 hour in the air) was a little bizarre, but overall, this was an incredibly powerful film. The cinematography was exquisite, the soundtrack fit the sense of foreboding and impending doom, and the acting was generally pretty good.

I liked how the film built from such a sense of loss and disaster to a triumphal, hopeful note closing with Churchill's "on the beaches" speech.

I know the films has its critics, but if you treat it as less of a historical documentary and more of a "visual poem", it works incredibly well.

I was there on the English side of the channel where many of the fishing boats came from on the day the movie was released. I enjoyed the movie very much.

I had no real problem with the movie, some things should have been added, others deleted, but…nothing is perfect and for what it is/was, I enjoyed it.

One thing they did nail though was Death, in all of it's horrific versions, most especially drowning. frown

I liked it except for the section where the group of soldiers were hiding in the fishing boat. That made no sense at all.

I'd watch it again

I liked it, and thought the concept of the 1 hour, 1 day and 1 week was brilliant. Not going to make my top 10 movie favorites but seen it at theater and at home so that's a good sign it will be a view whenever it's on.

I've found it a movie that reveals more each time I watch. The story of the boy whose friend goes the newspaper moves me to tears each time I see it.

Shagnasty…I cried also, the first time I watched it (theatre).
