Too bad about the death, but I got a chuckle from the following sentence:

"The rooster was taken into custody and is being kept at a local farm…"

I can just hear the prosecuting attorney now…

"Your Honour, the defendant was a little on the tough side (*burp!*), but I can assure you that justice has been served."

SWMBO began raising chickens two years ago. Her original
flock included a very aggressive rooster with long and
sharply pointed spurs.

One of her hens became 'egg bound,' a condition where
the egg would not drop free. When my wife tried to
get the hen to apply KY jelly to help the egg come
out, the rooster attacked her, inflicting a pretty nasty
gash on her forearm.

He was tasty, and his successors have been chosen for
their less aggressive nature.

Looks like the rooster served his own brand of justice.

Animals fight in nature. They don't schedule ring time with each other in nature. When they fight, most of the time, one reads its future in the tea leaves and runs, then the other goes home (as opposed to the hunter-prey dynamic). Abuse animals into aggression and force them together. As ye sow, so shall ye reap.
