The World Health Organization's special envoy on COVID-19 has urged world leaders to stop using lockdowns as the primary control method against the spread of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) virus, commonly known as the novel coronavirus.

"We in the World Health Organization do not advocate lockdowns as the primary means of control of this virus," David Nabarro told The Spectator in an interview aired on Oct. 8. "The only time we believe a lockdown is justified is to buy you time to reorganize, regroup, rebalance your resources, protect your health workers who are exhausted, but by and large, we'd rather not do it."

Nabarro pointed to the collateral damage that lockdowns are having worldwide, especially among poorer populations.

Nothing objectionable in the above quote, but where are the current lock-downs? Mask mandates, testing and contact tracing are the preferred tools when there's a low prevalence of community transmission, and lockdowns are simply a means to lower the rate of transmission A) reduce strain on the healthcare system, and B) lower the R0 to make contact tracing a helpful public health tool.

This virus hit the sweet spot of long incubation periods, high transmissibility, but low enough lethality that some people can delude themselves that this is but a flu or that a shot of powerful steroids from Dr Feelgood will make them alright.

It isn't really about current lockdowns. It is about the politicians and pundits who start saying talking about more lockdowns every time there is a news report about an uptick in reported cases.
