pitchers in MLB history passed away at 84 this week.

After a long battle with cancer Bob "Hoot" Gibson has died. He was one of the greats in St. Louis Cardinals history, and as a life-long Cardinals fan one of my boyhood heros.

Named one of the 20 greatest pitchers by MLB, he holds two records that may never be broken(1.12 era and 7 complete game World Series victories).

If you were an opposing batter following a homerun off Gibson, you knew you were going to hear "chin music".

The ERA is impressive, but the complete game victories
in WS play even more so.

Any bets on how long before MLB institutes changes to
rules so hitters, especially sluggers, have an easier
time of it?

Agreed.

I always remember when they would play the hated Dodgers (their natural rivals the Cubs sucked during those years) and Koufax was going againt Gibson, it was always a 1-0 or 2-1 game. Although, I remember one was a slugfest where one of them scored 4 runs.

In 1968 he started 34 games and pitched 28 complete games. The only times he didn't finish was when he was pulled for a pinch hitter!

In 1969 he completed 28 of 35 games, but I do not know the reasons he left games that year.
