I hope Mac got full song writing royalties on "In the Ghetto". That wasn't always the case with Elvis, as his manager "Colonel" Parker usually insisted on half.

Dolly famously refused to let Elvis record "I Will Always Love You" for that very reason.
So, she didn't have to split the royalties with Elvis when Whitney recorded it.
As Bill Monroe said to Ricky Skaggs, "I just got a powerful check…"
