Richard Wayne Penniman aka Little Richard has passed away at his home in Tennessee. One of the first inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the guy was a complete original. I just could not believe my eyes and ears when I was a kid, he just blew me away! He was Gay, Outrageous and Black, at a time when anyone of the three could have got him shot! Tutti Frutti, Long Tall Sally, Lucille and Good Golly Miss Molly were original bounce you off the wall Rock and Roll tunes that influenced countless performers. His songs Ready Teddy and the Girl Can't Help it from the movie of the same name were also real hammers from the era. Truly one of the Greats and a pioneer of the Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll life style, which he some how managed to mix with Religion. There certainly will never be another! |

"He was Gay, Outrageous and Black, at a time when anyone of the three could have got him shot!" Don't know what country you live in but, that wouldn't have happened in my country. |

Truly an original – and an inspired performer. You often hear "there'll never be another like him" but in this case it's certainly true. "having me some fun tonight" : YouTube link |

An original and influential talent, that's for sure. I assume StoneMountain is far too young to remember the 50's and early 60's: it really was a very different, much more intolerant, time. |

50s and 60s? Look to what happened in Georgia 80 days ago. |

Gunfreak, I thought it but didn't want to derail the thread. |

Don't know what country you live in but, that wouldn't have happened in my country. Sorry to say but it did happen and happen a lot for nearly a 100+ years. |

"Don't know what country you live in but, that wouldn't have happened in my country." Youre in America yes? You're joking. Tell me you're being ironic. Something. |

+1 one to GunFreak it sad when Europeans know our history better then we do. |

It was part of British history as well, just rather more low-profile because of the less readily availability of guns and no recent history of vigilantism and lynchings. |

People will talk of the good all days, but anybody who actually studies history knows that this is conditional at best. I am interested in the whole span of the middle ages from the fall of Rome to the reformation. But honestly I wound't even want to be an elite during that time. |
