Not really ghosts but….The Willows by Algernon Blackwood.

And if it has to be ghosts then….probably Lost Hearts.

Or…maybe it is…The Lost Stradivarius.

Difficult – so many to pick from!

I agree with Shagnasty. Always been a Kipling fan
anyway and "The Phantom Rickshaw" (correct title)
is one of my favorites of his stories.

Not to be ignored, but not a traditional ghost story,
is Kipling's horror story "The Mark of the Beast".

For a laugh, a non-ghost story with a sort of ghostly
theme is "The Rout of the White Hussars," also by
Kipling.

The Children of Green Knowe By L.M. Boston— a classic of children's literature that is just as enjoyable for an adult reader.

The Face in the Frost by John Bellairs. More fantasy than a ghost story, but it pulls off chilling, creepy horror very well.

The Hound of the Baskerville, one of Doyle's best efforts. A Sherlock Holmes story that is legitimately a horror tale, too!

The Haunting by Shirley Jackson. The best haunted house novel ever written.
