I give credit to the young men for both a resourceful solution in a severely dangerous situation, and for inspiring millions of teens around the globe with a new and ingenious alternative to "my dog ate it."

They are never quoted as saying they had finished their homework before it was burned. Plus, who still does homework on paper nowadays?

I think author John Steinbeck had a similar thing happen to one of his manuscripts.
