The hero is running around a tower at night, trying desperately not to be caught by Alan Rickman. It's a Harry Potter movie.

Of course its a Christmas movie, it takes place on Christmas eve.

KeithRK23 Dec 2019 4:36 p.m. PST

It takes place during Christmas. It's not about Christmas.

I always wondered why people thought it was a Christmas movie…

Perhaps an excuse to watch it.

Best Christmas movie ever. It's a story of a man just trying to get back to his family for Christmas, on the way he learns the valuable lesson it better to give (hot lead) than receive and some times the best gift you can give your wife are free (like letting a bad guy fall to his death)

Fitzwilly is a Christmas movie. One of Dick
Van Dyke's best.

Until the ISO comes up with a universal definition of "Christmas movie", the question of DH depends on your personal definition of that term.

Once the ISO comes up with a definition we can split into the groups that don't use that definition and the groups that quibble about the definition.

Most of the Harry Potter movies have a Christmas sequence in the middle. So Harry Potter movies are Christmas movies. From here we conclude that since DH is a HP movie, DH is a Christmas movie. And BW is a wizard.

I have embraced the truism that "It isn't Christmas until you've seen Hans Gruber fall from the Nakatoni Tower."

Mithmee25 Dec 2019 6:59 p.m. PST

It is a Christmas movie.

He even gets a present…

…so I guess "It's a Wonderful Life" isn't a Christmas movie either since it really doesn't have anything to do with Christmas but just takes place during Christmas.

Star Wars is also a Christmas movie, why?

Well for me at least, in the UK in ancients days before video cassettes were used there used to be a Star Wars movie shown every Christmas and the original Star Wars movie was shown repeatedly every Christmas for several years running, eventually the rest of the trilogy was also shown. So for me at least, Star Wars is a Christmas story.

Its also basically a story (OT) where the father learns the value of family over his job…..seems like the plot of a lot of Christmas movies I've been forced to sit through.

Be careful, or you will invoke the Star Wars Christmas Spec… Whoah! Almost slipped! Never mind …

I've never actually watched that which should not be named…..I have seen clips on youtube, which is enough to make me wonder how much 'medication' they were on when they made it.

Not only is it a Christmas movie.
But it's the oldest Christmas movie.
Celebrated since medieval times.
