Those joints and log spacing are really interesting. I would like to see what they put between the logs on the inside. It's a very fascinating discovery and I would imagine there may be any number of houses that were expanded and renovated like that. |

What will happen to it now ? Firewood – or preserved on a museum site somewhere? |

wmyers -- It is called chinking -- link There is a DIY network show called "Barnwood Builders" about a crew of West Virginia self-styled hillbillies who reclaim and repurpose old cabins and barns. link It is a very interesting show. 20thmaine -- If you read the linked article you would have seen -- The museum also explained that thanks to a donation from a local benefactor, it has purchased the cabin and plans to dismantle it, store it, and at some point, reassemble it on the Prairie D'Ane battlefield. Thank you for the links! There are a lot of barns around here that are sagging, collapsing and often end up just being torn down and burned. I like the idea of re-purposing them as it is quite depressing to see these so many barns (and houses!) just being left to deteriorate; especially when you know so much time, effort and love went into building them in the first place. It just seems like another aspect of today's throw-away society (that is spun as "recycling" instead of repair). |

My house isn't condemned, but it has the remnants of the early 1900's farmhouse and the original (?) settler's cabin inside the walls. |

@ColCampbell – Doh! My only excuse is that the article is so badly laid out that I skipped over that bit of text. Not much of an excuse, but needs must when the devil drives. |
