I'll be looking for this one.

Looks like they are trying to do way too much in one film. Pearl Harbor, Doolittle Raid, AND Midway? And when did a Japanese twin-engine bomber ever crash into an American carrier?

Private Matter13 Sep 2019 5:17 a.m. PST

Come on Scott, it's Hollywood. At least they don't have Japanese flying stukas. Or some damsel rowing her rowboat out to rescue her downed pilot beau.

Tommy2013 Sep 2019 10:58 a.m. PST

I'm in, but cautiously. Looks like there's a bit too much Pearl Harbor (the movie, not the battle) in the trailer for my tastes.

And I didn't realize how much the California, Maryland, Oklahoma, Tennessee, West Virginia, Nevada, Oklahoma, and Neosho(!) looked like the Pennsylvania & Arizona.

It's a Roland Emmerich movie, so prepare to see both.

Don't recall twin engined Japanese aircraft at PH or M.
I will go see it just to see the three carriers burning in a five minute period. High point of US naval history!

Okay, I was wrong and I apologize. A Japanese twin-engined Betty bomber did, in fact, clip the edge of carrier Enterprise's flight deck before crashing into the sea. Not at Midway, but in February 1942 when Admiral Halsey's task force raided several Japanese bases in the eastern Marshall Islands.

But that indicates the movie will try to cover even MORE of early war. Is it going to be four hours long?

Tommy2015 Sep 2019 7:32 a.m. PST

If they're going to do the whole war from Pearl Harbor to Midway, they might as well duplicate the cgi for Enterprise, Yorktown & Hornet & tell us it's the Lexington at Coral Sea. Hey, a carrier is a carrier, right?

Still gonna go see it, though.

The trailers are getting a lot of negative reviews. 500 pound bombs AND torpedoes on the same planes (that were unable to carry that load). Planes in combat with their drop tanks still on.

That, of course, is rivet counting. Does not mean the movie will not be well acted, directed, etc.

Does not mean the movie will not be well acted, directed, etc.

The odds are against that in any Roland Emmerich movie.

But I may see it just for the visual spectacle, which Mr. Emmerich does excel at. Seeing it at the theatre is necessary for the full effect.

Mithmee23 Sep 2019 7:31 a.m. PST

Critics will hate this movie since it is Pro-American.

It is going to be far better than Pearl Harbor with its lover triangle story.

Hmm, I had to go to imdb to find out what he's done – I'm not familiar with his name. His directed movies, yes, but not his name.

Yes, the visuals will be impressive – perhaps a bit overwhelming (if the trailers are anything to go by compared to actual wartime footage which, while being real, does not seem as … chaotic and "busy" … as the movie's trailer footage – as much of a contradiction as that seems).

It doesn't have Benaffleck, so I will go see it.
