…Going Back to the Mob.

"Netflix has released the first trailer for Martin Scorsese's The Irishman. The upcoming mob drama spans decades and follows Frank Sheeran (Robert De Niro), a hitman whose actions changed the course of American history.

Obviously, this isn't the first time Scorsese has told a story about American culture through the lens of crime, but judging by the trailer, it looks like the film is really taking on our political moment of intractability and how anyone who would hope to change the system gets cast aside. What makes this trailer so strong is how it relies more on the story and the relationships to make its point, and waits until the very end to show you a digitally de-aged De Niro. It shows that the movie needs the VFX, but that they're not the reason to see this film. The reason to see it is Scorsese telling an incredibly relevant narrative with three acting legends…."

I think deNiro has the ethnic gangster role down.
Italian in Godfather 2.
Jewish in Casino.
Irish in Goodfellas.
Now he's Irish again.

What? No Russian?

I see the trailer shows a hit at Umberto's Clam Shop.
It looks like he is taking credit for the hit on Crazy Joe Gallo. Long considered "unsolved".
A lot of "unsolved" mob hits, like on Hoffa, are merely due to not having evidence to bring it to trial. Brandt said that when he contacted the FBI about Hoffa, the agents involved smiled at him.

He took credit for a lot of things that he more than likely never did.

He also claims that he supplied David Ferrie with rifles with which to assassinate JFK.
Plus of course many Mob attempts on Castro.
What was the disclaimer for "American Hustle"? "Some of this movie might be true".

Thanks to Netflix most people will never see this movie as it has greatly reduced the opportunity for regular movie theatres to show the movie on the widescreen for which it was intended.BTW the running time is 210 minutes

And it just picked up some Little Gold Statue noms.

At best it might win 1-2 but they will not be any major Oscars.

For some strange reason they are loving 1917 but the movie to beat will be The Joker.

And the movie to beat was indeed The Joker.

The Irishman was not a bad film, but the extensive use of CGI to alter DeNiro's and Pacino's ages was distracting, creepy and overdone.
