"Traditionally, one of the arguments against giving up meat was that it's more expensive If you're wondering why more and more people are adamantly against meat consumption, you should know that it's far more than an ethical problem. Even if you don't have a problem with slaughtering billions of animals every year, there are still other concerns to consider. For starters, eating meat requires much more water than the equivalent plant foods, while at the same time, produces much more greenhouse gas emissions. At the core level, the reason for this is pretty simple: farm animals only convert about 10% of the food they eat into nutrients which we can eat. Granted, some of that comes from something like straw which we can't digest — but even so, a large part of what livestock eat could be fed to humans directly…." Main page link Amicalement Armand |

I do not consider plant based foods as "meat". I do like Tofu & so called veggie "burgers" at times but the main source of protein for me is meat. Mostly chicken & pork. The "cow farts" argument is laughable to me. |

I do not eat plant-based "meat" nor shall I as long as I live. |

I like eating meat. I like eating plants. At least many of them. I haven't tasted a plant-based "meat" that I would eat by choice. They're not inedible, imho, some aren't even bad, but if I had a choice I'd eat something else. But if you do the climate change math we have to greatly reduce meat consumption. No one wants to say that, because it's fantastically unpopular. And I don't think people will willingly give up meat. So I'm a little scared. I'm glad plant-based "meats" (PBMs?) are getting cheaper. Wake me when they're tastier. Two words we're all thinking: Maillard reaction. |

If they can REALLY do it at an acceptable price point, I'm onboard. Until then, I stick with Prime Rib. At this point every ersatz plant base meat cheese or other fake food has been a great disappointment. |

If it's plant based it isn't meat period. |

Unfortunately my kidneys are not happy and I have had to cut way back on the animal protein. Much of the vegetable replacements I have tried are not to bad. But I have yet to see anything but tofu cost less than than an equivalent amount of meat. |

Out her in the Western US, large parts of Australia, and other semi-arid regions or the world cattle and other livestock are grazing on land that is not irrigated and is otherwise unsuitable for farming food plants. No conflict there with the raising of plant based food for humans. And properly managed grazing of cattle on those lands leads to improved water retention and carbon sequestration (if that is a concern). Besides, most of the family hunt and venison is the staple meat product. Not going to be switching to plant based ersatz meat in my lifetime… |

My son has gone 100% vegan…..my girlfriend is vegetarian (no rude jokes please :) ) so I'm slowly converting myself to more and more of a plant based diet…..high cholesterol and blood pressure as well so it's also a health thing….the crazy part is I don't miss the automatic choice of massive steaks etc….I still indulge (great meat feast Chinese takeaway on Friday for instance) but am finding it quite an enjoyable experience. |

I concur, plants aren't meat. Also, with the latest revelation that plants feel pain too, I expect PETA to come out against eating them soon, also, since to do anything less would be hypocritical. "Let them eat air". (Remember, you read that slogan first, here – Copyright 2019). |
