I learned a very interesting lesson this weekend. My wife and I go on frequent hikes along Lake Erie in search of elusive bird species. Her hobby, not mine. So sitting at the computer the other night I discovered a tick had embedded itself on my right leg. Not thinking anything of it, I pinched the little Bleeped text off with a bit of skin and POW! the blood spurted about two feet across the room. The stream was pretty strong and steady so I plugged it my finger and told the wife. I knew it couldn't be an arterial bleed that close to the surface but to be safe we went to the local ER. One hour later, Home with the new knowledge that vericose veins can squirt like that. News to me and the admitting nurse but not the Doctors. So ye old farts beware! Our bodies are not as resilient as in years past!

my wife (nurse, no longer in practice) is really
obsessed with ticks. We live in a rural area and have
deer running all over the place.

She claims the deer ticks are the worst and actually
spreads deer corn 200 yards or more away from the
house to keep the deer in the woods and off the lawn
(and her hosta plants. -

Reminds me of the 2012 reenactment at Shiloh,;whole bunch of ticks in the grass and elsewhere on the battlefield section of the event.
