They made an unusual choice with the period of his life to cover. I would have gone with the later period but I'll still help for the best.

I love Ben Foster so that's a win!

Could be interesting.

Mithmee23 Jun 2019 7:12 p.m. PST

No official trailer yet.

Mithmee24 Jun 2019 12:41 p.m. PST

Well I see that they could not get someone from that region to play the major role.

Garand25 Jun 2019 11:28 a.m. PST

If the promo picture is anything to go by I don't have high hopes from the costume perspective…

Damon.

Bowman27 Jun 2019 7:57 a.m. PST

Sadly most English speaking audiences are allergic to sub-titles. I personally hate dubbed movies. But I agree, why not all Czech actors…….because the movie will pay for that at the box office in the US.

Mithmee29 Jun 2019 5:11 p.m. PST

Well if they throw a single black individual into the movie I will not watch it.

But knowing Hollywood and their pushing of total revision history they probably will.

Bowman03 Jul 2019 5:54 p.m. PST

From above:

Well if they throw a single black individual into the movie I will not watch it.
But knowing Hollywood and their pushing of total revision history they probably will.

From another movie's thread:

Hollywood needs to stop trying to push their SJW agendas onto everyone……

Deleted by Moderator This movie was filmed in the Czech Republic by Czech filmmakers. But don't let facts get in the way of a political rant.

Mithmee04 Jul 2019 1:46 p.m. PST

What delusions?

You must not have watched very many new BBC programs were they have to have individuals of color in every program now.

To include any period piece.

Troy: Fall of a City

imdb.com/title/tt5103758

So when was Achilles or Patrokus ever Black

Also when was Zeus ever Black

Simple never, but they want to change history (Mary Queen of Scots) and anything else.

They call foul when Rami Malek played the role of the Pharaoh in Night at the Museum.

link

Thing is he is actually is Egyptian and as such was perfect for the role and he was perfect to play Freddie Mercury as well.

So no I will never give it a rest and I and many others will vote with our wallets.

You on the other hand are quite happy with them changing history.

Mithmee04 Jul 2019 6:57 p.m. PST

Hollywood for the most part is putting out some really bad movies.

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP08 Jul 2019 8:46 a.m. PST

"Hollywood" put two great non-Czech actors in Anthropoid and the movie was very well received by the Czech Republic.

If putting Western actors in period piece movies gets the movie made and brings more Western attention to the history of that area then I'm all for it.

The only time I would not is when Hollywood white-washes historical characters by changing the race or ethnicity of the original characters.

That said, I totally agree with Mithmee. Hollywood has had a steady run of stinkers over the past few years.

The only movie I've really liked in the last 2 years was Hereditary.

Bowman09 Jul 2019 4:58 p.m. PST

Hollywood" put two great non-Czech actors in Anthropoid and the movie was very well received by the Czech Republic.

And why wouldn't it? Europeans are used to subtitles. The reverse would not be true. Btw, Anthropoid is a British film with all the main characters being British. The main female actor is Canadian.

If putting Western actors in period piece movies gets the movie made and brings more Western attention to the history of that area then I'm all for it.

Sure, if by "Western" you mean English speaking. I thought Czechs were part of the Western world. wink

The only time I would not is when Hollywood white-washes historical characters by changing the race or ethnicity of the original characters.

Ok. In the upcoming Midway movie I'd like the Japanese to at least look Japanese. However, in a movie about Mary Queen of Scots, an minor figure was played by a British born light brown skinned actor. From that, it was claimed that Hollywood has some liberal PC agenda and is promoting a nefarious SJW schedule or whitewashing. Good grief.

That said, I totally agree with Mithmee. Hollywood has had a steady run of stinkers over the past few years.

I'm old enough to know that bad movies have always been made. This is not a new phenomenon. Movies cost so much to make now. Actors are paid enormous amounts of money now. The traditional means of distributing films in theatres is disappearing. Remember when movies that weren't blockbusters still played in theatres for weeks? They built up word of mouth and became successful that way. These changes have all made Hollywood very, very fiscally conservative and severely risk adverse. Hence we see little innovative filmmaking outside of small independent companies (both Hereditary and The Witch were distributed by the same company, A24). So now we have the flood of safe formulaic films, sequels, prequels, hard reboots, soft reboots, and related "universe of….." movies.

That is why movies suck. Not because of some deluded Hollywood agenda and supposed SJW tendencies. That argument is a non sequitur.

The only movie I've really liked in the last 2 years was Hereditary.

I've seen a lot of good movies in the last few years. Hereditary was one of them. So was Get Out, Don't Breathe, The Witch, It Follows, The Curse of La Llorona, Suspiria, The Babadook, Raw, Goodnight Mommy and the brilliant and over the top Mandy (just to keep to the horror/suspense genre). There were many other, non-genre movies.

Bowman,

You must not have been out to IMDB and seen just who was playing who for that movie.

Well you have this individual

Being played by this individual

Now I really doubt that Lord Thomas Randolph was Black.

Oh, and he is not the only one.

They want to rewrite history and it is completely okay for them to put a non-white actor/actress into a role that should be for whites.

It is not the same the other way around.

They were upset that Matt Damon was in a movie that had mostly Asians because he is white, but he was playing an individual who travel to China from Europe.

SJW is live and well in Hollywood.

Bowman11 Jul 2019 6:53 p.m. PST

You must not have been out to IMDB and seen just who was playing who for that movie.

You must have missed what I wrote above.

They want to rewrite history ………

Here is where your argument jumps the shark.

Mithmee12 Jul 2019 12:44 p.m. PST

No that movie jump the shark once they put in a black actor to play an individual, who in real life was white.

Which means that they are rewriting history.

Maybe they should remake Zulu but have all of the Zulu Warriors be white and the British soldiers black.

It would fit right into their agenda.

Mithmee14 Jul 2019 7:01 p.m. PST

Oh and here is their plan for James Bond.

link

Bowman15 Jul 2019 3:41 a.m. PST

Oh and here is their plan for James Bond.

When I told you on a previous thread that I saw a black actor play Harold Hill in last year's Stratford Festival revival of The Music Man, you said that didn't bother you as Harold Hill was a fictional character.

I guess you can't keep the "logic" of your conspiracies straight.

Please tell us what is the end goal of the "brainwashing" and "whitewashing" that a liberal agenda driven Hollywood has in having a female of colour playing a fictional character?

Mithmee15 Jul 2019 1:37 p.m. PST

I really do not care about plays or stage.

First it was:

Doctor Who

Now it is James Bond

Who is next:

Mithmee15 Jul 2019 1:47 p.m. PST

Please tell us what is the end goal of the "brainwashing" and "whitewashing" that a liberal agenda driven Hollywood has in having a female of colour playing a fictional character?

They hate males (see Gillette commercial below)

YouTube link

So they plan on changing everything that they can.

Ghostbusters from men to women (oh it bombed)

Doctor Who from a male to female

Making everyone believe that Moon Landing was due to a few black females in the Movie Hidden Figures (got to change history).

So it is all about changing the culture and history for their agendas.

Bowman15 Jul 2019 3:33 p.m. PST

I won't respond to your delusional conspiracies about "they" hating males. But I will respond to :

Making everyone believe that Moon Landing was due to a few black females in the Movie Hidden Figures (got to change history).

The main character in the movie was a black mathematician (they were called "human computers") called Katherine Goble. She ended up calculating the launch trajectories for all the space programs, starting with Alan Shepard's launch all the way through the Apollo program right up to the Shuttle launches.

I don't care about your attitude towards fictional characters like Ghostbusters or Timelords, but Deleted by Moderator

Deleted by Moderator Instead, look up the group of CIA analysts known as the "Band of Sisters" and see what they had to do with finding Osama bin Laden.

Garand18 Jul 2019 9:00 a.m. PST

It occurs to me that what Mithmee is arguing about is what the OFM used to call the "Wrong Tank Syndrome" but with people. In the end, no one really cares, except maybe history buffs & anti-SJW types.

Damon.

Mithmee23 Jul 2019 8:16 p.m. PST

Yes and here is some more revisionism.

King Arthur is Black because that is what they want.

link

imdb.com/name/nm6863919

Just another SJW show that I will not watch.

Bowman25 Jul 2019 7:07 a.m. PST

King Arthur is Black because that is what they want.

What an infantile statement.

Mithmee25 Jul 2019 12:17 p.m. PST

Thing is…

It true.

So was King Arthur Black?

Oh and why did they pick a Black Actor to play King Arthur?
