The time is mid 1960's and Ferrari ruled at Le Mans and Ford wanted to beat them. YouTube link So they got with Carroll Shelby to design and build a car that could. This movie is about what happen way back then. Oh and it looks really good. |

It's a good story to make a film of! Ford wanted to buy Ferrari but Enzo Ferrari pulled out of the deal at the last minute. Ford decided to get back at Ferrari by beating them at Le Mans, a race that had a lot of publicity in the 1960s. The result was the GT40. So named because it was only 40 inches high! Ford actually contracted a specialist British racing car manufacturer called Lola to design and build the car for them, as Lola had considerable experience building that type of car. Ford supplied the engines. The Mark IV GT40, a development of the original car, was designed and built by Ford in the US. GT40s won Le Mans four times in a row in the late 60s, and has become an iconic car in the motorsport world! |

Carroll Shelby ran the Ford factory race team. He didn't actually build the GT40! He was probably chosen as he already had Motorsport links with Ford. He also had experience of working with British engineering. The Cobra from the 1950s was the result of Shelby fitting a American Ford V8 to the Ace sportscar made by the British company AC. It was such a good idea that in the 60s and 70s there were loads of low volume British car makers that used big US V8s in their cars! Shame nobody could afford to run them due to the price of fuel over here… |

Matt Damon wouldn't have been my first choice to play Carroll Shelby. Then again, I can't think of anyone in our current crop who would have been any better, so Matt was as good a choice as any. Carroll should have been awarded the Medal of Freedom. He was a great American. |

Agree about Matt Damon. He seems a bit of a lightweight to play Shelby! |

Matt Damon wouldn't have been my 1st or hundredth pick. |

I finally saw the film yesterday and liked it very much. Matt Damon and Christian Bale were terrific. See it before it goes away. |
