"TWO BILLION PEOPLE can't be wrong—at least, not about the nearly 2,000 species of insects that make for good eatin' around the world. But nobody has to pitch you on the benefits of insectivory, right? Easier on the environment, full of weird nutrients, and whoa, check out that feed conversion ratio: It takes half as much food as you'd give to pigs and chickens and a twelfth as much as cattle to get the same amount of cricket protein on the far side of the abattoir. If Earth might have to feed 9 billion people in the coming decades, insects are what's for dinner. Ask the United Nations…." Main page link Amicalement Armand |

I'd eat crickets, but I draw the line at poop…. |

I don't think the article expects you to eat poop. |

I only read the title of the thread |

I would eat Long Pork before I eat insects. |

I would eat Leningrad sawdust-cakes before I eat insects or Long Pork. Bowman, what is that dish you had? |

It's hard to see, but it's a traditional Indonesian salad with spicy fried insects. I think they were small crickets. Tasted spicy with a texture similar to "cheesies". |

Any crustaceans. Sea bugs… Damon. |

I have no problem with processed insects, duly turned to dust and then seasoned to taste anything but "insecty" and made into some kind of sausage or other alternatives. Until then I'll hold off the grasshopper on a stick, thank you. Oddly enough I do like shrimp. |

Bowman: Doesn't sound too bad. |

It wasn't at all. It was mostly an exotic garnish for a salad and not a main course. The bugs were roasted and didn't taste "insecty" even though I don't know what that means. I suspect that unless you grew up in 3rd world countries where sufficient protein was difficult and expensive to find, the world won't be embracing grasshopper kebabs any time soon. We'll likely see powered, flavoured protein that we sprinkle on our food once regular sources of meat and fish become too expense to raise and purchase. |

Yeah – it's not as if sausages etc are made from the prime cuts of an animal after all. In the UK chicken skin (which is basically a layer of fat) can be claimed as chicken meat on a 50% basis (i.e. if a chicken burger has 10g of chicken in it, then it might actually be 20g of chicken skin being claimed as 50%meat and 50% fat). |
