Does anyone who has played both of these have a preference for one over the other? Thanks. |

It depends on what you are looking for. While they both appear to be similar "Dudes On A Map" board games, they are actually rather different. Forbidden Stars is more of a straight forward conquest, build up your forces and attack your enemies game. Twilight Imperium is a lot more involved. Combat is less at the forefront. There is trade, politics (players vote on legislative proposals that change game rules), technology advancement, negotiation between players, making alliances etc. It is a lot more back-stabby. It is also a longer game. A full 6 player game will take several hours to play. If you want to compare the rules, here are links to both Learn To Play guides. A full 6 player game will take several hours to play. Several Hours would be for all 6 players to being very experience with the game. Even with the new 4th Edition you are usually looking at a game that takes all day to play. |

A full 6 player game will take several hours to play. Several Hours would be for all 6 players to being very experience with the game. Both games are from Fantasy Flight Games and since GW pulled away from them Forbidden Stars will only be what it is forever and will not get the normal FFG expansion treatment. But 4th Edition Twilight Imperium will. Though Forbidden Stars will play faster. |
