Setting aside some time on our next visit to London to head out to one of the museums in the subject line. To those of you who have been to both, which would you recommend; the Royal Air Force Museum London (Hendon) or the Imperial War Museum Duxford?

Hendon is more see-able in a day, it's a more compact layout – still a lot of planes! Try and make sure the WW1 hall is open. Also it has free entry.

Duxford is magnificent and on an airfield and it's almost impossible to see it all in a day.

A favourite moment at Duxford was a young girl speaking to an elderly man staring intensely at a rotary engine.

"Grandad", she said plaintively, "Do we have to look at everything?"

I felt for both people – I wanted to see everything as well, but also recognised it was impossible. So I signed up as a Friend of the museum and went back every couple of months for a couple of years or more.
