After many years I finally bought a new computer. The prospect of reinstalling all of my software and favorites and passwords, etc. was a bit daunting. So I found a company (Zinstall) which would transfer everything from the old computer to the new using the Internet. It was a bit pricey and took over 30 hours, but it worked! The new computer looks and acts and feels just like then old--except a whole lot faster. Didn't need to re-install anything.

I always (well, for the last 40 years) considered this a "spring cleaning" operation. You'd be surprised how much crap you can get rid of when it takes effort to keep it instead of taking effort to throw it away.

My wife bought a new 'puter about 6 months ago (BestBuy) and the Geeks took her old one and did the same thing. I believe the cost of the 'cloning' was covered by our Geek contract. Took a day or so.
