Well it looks well done but I will not be watching it ever.

The reason is right there in the trailer.

Winston Smith13 Jul 2018 7:07 p.m. PST

If it's free on Demand…

So. Harley Quinn as Good Queen Bess???

Why is everyone wearing black?

I enjoyed immensely Turn, which to be generous was 75% accurate. I don't watch movies for accuracy. I'll read a book for that.

I'll pass. Looks like another soap opera in historic setting.

She spend a huge amount of time to learn a current Scots accent which would sound completely different from its Elizabethan counterpart (and they still spoke a lot of Gaelic back then which would be even more realistic) but the real joke is that Mary almost exclusively spoke French …

No it is another SJW movie where they cast non-whites to play whites.

Winston Smith15 Jul 2018 11:46 a.m. PST

Ah. So James Earl Jones cannot play King Lear.

Mithmee15 Jul 2018 8:35 p.m. PST

King Lear is fantasy what happen during the 1500's is not.

But that is not going to stop Hollywood or BBC on them rewriting history.

To them there were Black individuals who were members of the House of Lords and ruling England back then.

I was at Holyrood palace a few months ago & wandered into Mary's sewing room. It was filled with a tour group & a guide, dramatically recounting Rizzo's murder.

He said, " And then Darnley's minions forced there way into the room, dragging out the cowering Rizzo from his hidey-place & did him to death right there!" pointing at the spot I was standing on.

I involuntarily took a few steps backwards…as you would.

And here I was more upset about how hideous Margot Robbie is in pancake makeup.

Mithmee17 Jul 2018 7:35 p.m. PST

No one ever looks good in pancake makeup.

But that pales to the constant Revision of History.

Personal logo ochoin Supporting Member of TMP17 Jul 2018 10:18 p.m. PST

I doubt that such casting practices amount to "Revision of History". I think you are over-reacting. As long as the actor can carry the part, I wouldn't care if they were green. SIW may think otherwise and are entitled to forego watching the flick.

BTW there were certainly black individuals in the Scottish nobility.

…..black-hearted to be precise and they were mostly Campbells.

Bowman24 Jul 2018 4:25 p.m. PST

But that pales to the constant Revision of History.

Mary confining Elizabeth for 18+ years before having Elizabeth beheaded is a revision of history. Having a person of colour play an extra in a film is hardly that.

I was at the Stratford Festival during the Historicon weekend. One of the shows I saw was The Music Man. Mithmee, don't click on the link to see who is playing Harold Hill. He was great!!

Well I don't think that this movie is going to do all that well at the Box Office.

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP10 Feb 2019 4:29 p.m. PST

David Tennant was quite good in it.

Holyrood was more "castley" than I recalled.

Old Wolfman13 Feb 2019 7:43 a.m. PST

Picked up some Little Gold Statue nods though.

Mithmee13 Feb 2019 1:32 p.m. PST

Yes for Makeup and Costume

Oh and I was right about it not doing all that great at the box office.

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP16 Feb 2019 6:22 p.m. PST

It's a pretty cheap film – $25 USDmillion, and it has taken $38 USDmillion.

I don't think there'll be a sequel though.

Mithmee17 Feb 2019 8:19 a.m. PST

You are forgetting the millions spent on Marketing and that this movie has been around for nearly 10 plus years.

The actual cost of it is around $35 USD-$40 million.

So it will only be known for being a bomb.

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP17 Feb 2019 12:50 p.m. PST

Cost $40 USDmillion, take $40 USDmillion – Break even. wink

Bowman17 Feb 2019 2:39 p.m. PST

And all because a black actor was chosen to play a member of the House of Lords?

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP17 Feb 2019 5:04 p.m. PST

It actually isn't the box office that makes me think there won't be a sequel.

In the immortal words of Sean Connery "If your head's off, you've had it!".

Mithmee18 Feb 2019 1:45 p.m. PST

And all because a black actor was chosen to play a member of the House of Lords?

Well yes and bad choice of actresses to play the lead role.

You want to watch a better movie about this I would suggest.

imdb.com/title/tt0067402

Far better movie and amazing no black actor playing a member of the House of Lords.

Or maybe you can tell use which member of the House of Lords or House of Commons was black back in 1580's England.

Bowman20 Feb 2019 5:45 a.m. PST

Well yes and bad choice of actresses to play the lead role.

Which you are not equipped to comment on as you have refused to see the new movie. (Forever, as you stated).

You want to watch a better movie about this I would suggest.

I've seen it, thanks.

Or maybe you can tell use which member of the House of Lords or House of Commons was black back in 1580's England.

Well a little bit of intrawebbing and I can see how ill informed your comment is.

According to IMDB the "black actor" is actually an Hispanic actor from Puerto Rico named Ismael Cruz Cordova. And he doesn't play a member of the House of Lords or House of Commons. He plays a real historical figure named David Rizzio. He was an swarthy Italian courtier and part of the embassy that went to Scotland. He was a good musician and singer and soon ingratiated himself with the young Queen. He eventually became her personal secretary.

So don't let facts get in the way of a stupid rant like, "No it is another SJW movie where they cast non-whites to play whites." He is someone of Spanish descent playing someone of Italian descent. Plus you are the only sensitive soul upset by this, which makes you the SJW here.

But that pales to the constant Revision of History.

Hyperbole much?

Mithmee20 Feb 2019 1:25 p.m. PST

Well yes and bad choice of actresses to play the lead role.

Hmm, well lets check the facts.

Elizabeth was around her 40's – 50's during this time and they get a…

27 year old actress to play her.

So as I said a bad choice of actresses.

Oh and there were other Black Actors in that movie just check out the cast.

They wanted to revised history but as the numbers stated it did not do well at all.

Bowman20 Feb 2019 6:41 p.m. PST

Got it.

First there was a black actor playing Rizzio and therefore the movie would fail as it is pushing some agenda (known only to you by the way).

Then the black actor turned out to be Hispanic and was playing an Italian.

And now the movie is failing because the actress playing Elizabeth is 12 years too young. Ahh, the continual revision of history! Blacks and Australians! The horror!

Of course Mary Stuart is played by an American Irish girl. She is 22. Mary died at 45. Hope your head doesn't explode. wink

Mithmee20 Feb 2019 7:02 p.m. PST

In 1583 Elizabeth was 50 years old.

Here are a few other Black Actors who are in this movie.

As for the David Rizzio character well

link

I a bit more white than the actor who played him.

This is during the 1560 – 1580's England and there were probably no England at this time.

If this would have been done by the BBC the cast would have been around 30%-40% individuals of color.

Bowman21 Feb 2019 11:21 a.m. PST
