"First trailer and poster have been released for the remake of PAPILLON as well which is out August 24th! Based on the international best selling autobiographic books "Papillon" and "Banco", it follows the epic story of Henri "Papillon" Charrière (Charlie Hunnam), a safe cracker from the Parisian underworld who is framed for murder and condemned to life in the notorious penal colony on Devil's Island. Determined to regain his freedom, Papillon forms an unlikely alliance with quirky convicted counterfeiter Louis Dega (Rami Malek), who in exchange for protection, agrees to finance Papillon's escape, ultimately resulting in a bond of lasting friendship." Another remake??? There's absolutely no excuse for the huge number of them these days. It's lazy and insulting, considering how much they pay the writers and other "creative" staff. Pathetic. That's it. I'm not giving lazy remakes/reboots/piggybacks another penny. Not one. Done. Dan |

Sounds like they are following the original movie, rather than the original book. The movie was rewritten (by Dalton Trumbo) to make it more filmable. |

And,if you recall in the original,Trumbo himself appears as the French prison warden, who tells the assembled prisoners about to be shipped over to the penal colony,to "Forget France, and put your clothes on." |
