After really not enjoying the last few Star Wars films (Rogue One least of all), I'm happy, and a bit surprised, to say I've just seen the Han Solo effort, and really rather enjoyed it.

It had humour, it had pace, and while there was no real peril for the lead and his companion it remained an enjoyable watch. There were lots of nods back to the original incarnation, and for once a plot that I didn't find myself constantly questioning. I'm not normally a fan of Woody, but I thought his part was well played too.

And this time there's no argument; Han definitely shoots first.

Looking forward to seeing it – hopefully next week.

Good to hear. As I understand it Ron Howard was called it half way thru the shooting and he usually does a good job.

I'm still going to wait for it to be on Netflix.

At last.
A review of a movie that someone liked. (It helps that he actually SAW it, and is not relying on what his ideology minders tells him what he should think about it.)
It's refreshing to read about a movie from someone who actually saw it.

I'll probably wait for Netflix too. That's why I'm paying for it, after all.

This is one worth seeing. It's worth seeing on the big screen. Too many details that you'll miss otherwise.

As for bringing in Ron Howard, here's the backstory: link

I had fun

Have to agree it's definitely enjoyable, certainly a very long way from the train wreck predicted by the frothing hordes. I wasn't expecting much and wasn't intending to see it at the movies until I read Starfury rider's post but that was enough to change the wife and I from "Gurnsey literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" to Solo and we very much enjoyed it. There is even a nod to the Wraith Squadron novel in it.

Another 2 thumbs up from me. Far better that the Last Jedi and the Force Awakens.

Slower, more thoughtful story.

I thought it was the weakest of the Disney SW movies. I thought the Angry Black Woman Rebellious Robot personna was a strange choice, but I wasn't offended in any way. And when I challenged the "twist reveal" villan at the end, my friend who keeps up on all things SW had to explain it to me.

Turns out it's another example of Disney thumbing it's nose at Lucas SW canon…..

I really thought it was a good western in space. The heist was a nice touch.

It was a little long and could have done without at least one more chase.

I also enjoyed seeing "normal people". No Jedi, light sabers…ok mostly

Waiting for Mad Magazine's satire of it.

Liked it quite a bit. Enjoyed the building of Han's backstory and I thought they made very good casting choices.Like Rogue One, I believe it is better than the two main story line movies and MUCH better than the three 'prequels'.

the "twist reveal" villan at the end

If you did not watch Clone Wars or Rebels, it would be a bit of a shock. If you do then you are like "Oh? Okay…"

Well one thing is for certain.

You decided to want to change up and hose over the characters than you get lousy box office returns.

They totally hosed over this movie with the casting and trying to appease the SJW's.

So I will probably never watch.

Au contraire, Mithmee, the reason is exactly the opposite:

Solo's weakness may be that it is too conventional and generic, with a white male as the lead and little diversity.

Mithmee31 May 2018 6:38 p.m. PST

FORBES is just trying to put a spin on it.

Fans want and expect certain things and the SJW crowd wants something totally different.

Hollywood went with the SJW's on this movie and well the lackluster returns is what they are get.

It doing bad at the box office has nothing to do with the fact that a white guy is starring in the lead role.

It has everything to do with what they did to appease the SJW's.

I thought the writer of this piece

probably hit the major nail on the head.

We already know how Han Solo's life eventually plays out; we know he finishes the infamous Kessel Run in record time and wins the Millennium Falcon from Lando.

i.e. – all the key points of drama are already resolved.

That it agrees with me is only coincidental: TMP link

Haven't seen it yet – aiming to on Tuesday!

After seeing Solo yesterday(with 19 other people)I can truly say I didn't think much of it

I had a lukewarm take of it and it was okay but that's about it.

BTW I really hated that droid.

Just got in from seeing it – I thought it was reasonable fun, gave some more background depth to the Star Wars Universe. Not as good as Rogue 1 – mainly because the only characters at risk were one's that we hadn't known for too long – Chewie, Han, Lando are never really in any danger, and that does sap the tension away. Probably don't need to see it again at the Cinema, would watch it on TV.

I didn't like that droid at first, but I thought it was better later in the film.

Thought Lando (Donald Glover) was great casting.

Saw it today and thought it was pretty good. Not great, but not bad. I must say I liked the supporting characters a lot more than the main ones, though.
