I am on a river cruise up the river Douro in Portugal. Anything worth seeing that is close to the river? A trip to Salamanca is included but I suspect it will be to the tourist bits of the city.

Overall the holiday was a let down for various reasons. The trip to Salamanca was the city centre. I did find a 4.5" howitzer from WW1 behind a fence in Lamego. In Porto there was an army base with some artillery pieces again behind a fence. I could identify a couple of British 5.5" guns and a 6" howitzer. I think the others included a 10.5 cm leFH 18 (possibly two) and a 15-cm sFH 18 gun.

But did you try the Port?

Frequently. It was an all inclusive bar on the boat. The beer was poor, the spirit selection limited, so I had to drink lots of port.
