The 80s video game icon Atari well known for their versions of ‘Space Invaders' and ‘Pac-Man' are ditching the joystick for the time being while they jump on the cryptocurrency bandwagon…

It is absolutely not the '80s video game company. That's fantastically misleading. Otherwise, this is an interesting trend – companies issuing their own currency. It's like the old day!

There is no "Atari" company. For all practical purposes, it went defunct in the 1990s. There is only a French company that bought the rights to the name, logo, and IP of Atari. On the plus side, they are licensing all of this quite openly, allowing for the creation of retro devices and even new devices like the Atari Flashback Portable, essentially the long-hoped-for handheld Atari equivalent of the Gameboy. (I received one for Christmas from my loving and indulgent spouse.) They also license the logo for t-shirts, etc.. More power to 'em, if they can cash in, while still giving us nostalgia nerds our '80s tech fix. But I'll pass on the cryptocurrency, no matter what logo gets put on it.
