My wife,Linda(Frau Wolf,as I sometimes call her),is going to undergo a total knee replacement Monday, but only the left knee,thankfully.. The surgeon is reportedly one of the best. I've been making arrangements for her to be in a rehab center post-op,as our apartment only has stairs to get to the top floor of our 4-family building and I still have to work to support us.

Good luck to her and you.

Good luck. I have had both mine done and the recovery was very different. My second was very smooth and I was pretty mobil in about 6 weeks

Bad news;doctor cancelled the surgery. Not enough time to get a complete physical done prior to the surgery. She had just changed primary MD's and all. Another doc found she has signs of brittle bones(but not yet osteoporosis.) We'll get through this, though.

One key to recovery is to do lots of stretching exercise beforehand. I know that it is difficult when you need surgery, but do some exercise before had shortens the recovery time.

My dad brushed it off on the first knee because it was painful. The recovery was especially so. The second surgery was so much better because he prepped in advance. By day 4 he could walk up a flight of stairs. Only 1 flight not 4, and he couldn't really get down that easily. My mom suggested that I should just leave him in the attic, but I didn't.

Best of luck, I had ACL replacement maybe 8 years ago and has been absolutely fine.

And myself,I had a weather related arthritic flareup in both knees and left ankle in the last couple of weeks.

And a medical assessment for work, indicated my hours needed to be trimmed, due to the severity of my arthritis.

Went fairly well. Dexterity test was OK,not the fastest, but got all the pegs in the right holes. Left leg seems to come down harder than the right, and in short, confirmed the previous diagnosis by my PCP.
