When it starts to get chilly, I listen to this. It's perfect for deep winter too,of course.

I bought the CD when it came out in 97. Best five bucks I ever spent, I think.

Unlike the massive Red Army Choir type of ensemble, this is a very small group,with an intimate sound,maybe eight singers,and a couple of instruments. And with Diman Pantchev, one of those great Russian bass-baritones.

As a reviewer in Fanfare put it, think "a Russian cafe around midnight, with several empty vodka bottles rolling on the table".

Or I might say,the platoon sitting around the campfire.
