Seems there was a goat herding dog that would not abandon his herd during the fires even when his owners were trying to get him into the car to evacuate. They expected to find him missing or dead upon return, but he survived, he was singed and limping, and even adopted a couple of frightened baby deer into his herd for protection. link link link
