Well, this is out on the BBC now: link

Not to start a rant, and I hate all the usual "PC" argy-bargy, but I have to think it's a PC mountain being made out of a mole hill. I mean, FOUR companies of Indians out of an army of 350,000, and they're not singled out in a display of tokenism, so someone complains? There were more Scottish units at Dunkirk than Indian, but I haven't read whining about lack of Scots being portrayed in the Dunkirk movie. And so on and so forth. Do film critics have nothing better to do than gripe because history isn't the way they wish it had been?

As I recall, in WWI Indian troops fared poorly in France in the winter of 1914-15 and were soon recalled and put on active duty elsewhere, where the climate was less onerous on them. I expect this is the reason why WWII saw the Indian Army chiefly employed in warm weather theatres.

Anyone else have any insight on this topic?

Really!!!

Nolan showed just a small portion about what was going on at Dunkirk.

They show that small boat captain only making one trip to Dunkirk and back when in real life he would have made several trips back and forth.

Oh I have insight but for that you will have to go over to the Blue Fez.

Sounds a bit like all the complaints about there being no British or Canadians in Saving Private Ryan.

Upon release, I read someone complaining there weren't any Soviets in SPR…

There should not had been any.

If you wanted British and Canadians head over to Caen you might find some.

"There should not had been any"

True but it didn't matter there were plenty of posters here complaining about there not being any.

They just don't make socially aware movies like they used to:

Well I was not one of them since I actually know my history.

Can't help those who don't.

What they should have been asking is how does a Ranger Captain who landed at Omaha get tasked with finding a paratrooper.

The same way landers got into rear areas during the actual assault: go "around" the west end, like in the TV series Combat!

I think it was because someone did not have enough 15mm Indian armies and just plan forgot.
