Three people who stepped in for others who couldn't step up for themselves. The best of our ideals; strangers from diverse backgrounds banding together to help when needed. I hope that the two young girls live cherishing the gift that was given to them rather than fearing the hate that was defeated.

This sort of senseless violence just sickens me to the core.

@Zone: "I hope that the two young girls live cherishing the gift that was given to them rather than fearing the hate that was defeated."

Sadly, thanks to what media and politicians do next to exploit this tragic event, much of the public will only remember the hate that prompted the attack and the origin of the person who instigated it, despite the similar origin of the men who gave their lives to protect the women.

They will do more to create a rift than to bring people together.

I wish I could be more optimistic*, but this is about to be exploited by activists, media and many other selfish vultures.

* Or maybe I'm just not in a good place right now to handle this irrational act and the taking of the lives of these heroic men.

I know you recently lost close family. I was touched by your tribute and thoughts on his passing.

You uncle, as well as the two heroes killed and one wounded in the above story are best remembered and kept alive by people who honor their truth. We don't control the message that may swirl around their actions. The facts of what they did may end up being just a small candle in a dense woods. But it is a burning light none the less.

At least it looks like, for the moment, all sides are coming together to recognize the selflessness of these men and the importance of their gesture:

PS. Thanks Z.

Two more victims of terrorism.

We honour their sacrifice.

So it would appear that someone decided that one of the victim's backpacks would be better with him.

It is good that these three stood up for others but they forgot that when dealing with crazies you need to up your guard.

Oh and as the above individual stealing one of the victim's backpack shows that Portland like many other major US cities is filled with crazy individuals.
