And I feel, 2 hours and 20 minutes later, as if I have trudged through the Amazon on many a long…long…long…really long….journey. The WWI on the Somme scenes are a complete fantasy – Percy Fawcett was in the Artillery. Oh well, at least they were very nearly exciting. Nearly. This gets a 3/10 – and a gold star for contributions to being incredibly turgid – rating. |

Not so thrilling as that – it was the vaguely true story of Major Percy Fawcett who is sent in the early years of the 20th century by the Royal Geographical Society to trace a tributary river to the Amazon to its origin in order to settle a border dispute. Along the way he develops a theory of an enormous civilisation whose remains are now hidden in the jungle. And WWI intervenes. Then it's back to the Amazon! And on paper it sounds like a good film…on paper. |

Then it's back to the Amazon! How things have changed since then. First, Amazon online once we had internet, now in some places you can get two hour delivery and in some instances delivery by drone. He should have been so lucky. And it is pronounced ZED in case anyone cares. Yeah but he may have misspelled it… it COULD be the "Lost City of X" with the X pronounced like the first but not the second X in Xerox. Always wondered why it wasn't pronounced ZEE RAHZ or ECKS ROCKS so the X's didn't have an identity crisis about which one was which. |

Thing is the Mato Grosso area of the Amazon Rainforest was a very dangerous place 100 years ago. I wonder just now this movie is going to handle this very important fact of Percy Fawcett life. That in 1925 he entered that area along with his son and son's best friend and was never heard of again. link Though those who tried to find them should have followed his last wish that they do not try. Since around 100 of them died trying to find them. Remember that was a very dangerous area back then. So I know how this story ends and will not see this movie. |

Ah – but the thing is you don't know how the story ends since he was never found. The film does have a conclusion. It's too early to share (spoilers!). They "fictionalise" all through the film – the WWI bit was probably the extreme of that. |

Great book, but I am not sure how well it will translate to film. |

Teddy Roosevelt nearly died on an expedition to that area in 1913, as I recall. Very dangerous indeed. |
