Starting to wonder if I'm the only TMPer who has seen Logan – the latest, and apparently last, appearance of Wolverine as portrayed by Hugh Jackman.

I read a quite scathing review in The Sunday Times yesterday that questioned why they had made it so violent – ensuring a 15 certificate because "why would anyone over the age of 15 want to see this film?".

Wow !

As someone well over the age of 15 (!) I'd rebut this comment by noting that it is a well written story, which acknowledges an emotional debt to "Shane", which takes a somewhat bleak look at the state of the world in the X-Menverse in hr near future of 2029. Hugh Jackman is excellent – and Patrick Stewart gets to demonstrate what a versatile actor he really is. There are one or two "obvious" moments, and it's really not safe spending anytime around Logan/X-24 : his begrudging friendship often comes at a very high cost. As superhero films go it's low on superhero high-jinks and higher on intellect than is the normal case.

I'd say see it. It's set a high bar for other films in this vein coming later in the year to be measured against.

It was a very well done movie and as you stated, well acted and well written.

I enjoyed it and thought the violence fit the theme of the film, but I do know a couple of people really put off by it.

Not coincidentally they were fans of the lighter tone of the earlier X-men movies. Both were also bothered by the outcome of the Deadpool trailer.

It is violent – but we are talking about a man who has razor sharp metal claws projecting from his hands when he punches people. It's a movie with adult themes.

It has just the right amount of violence for a Wolverine movie. It's as if the producers, after two attempts, finally decided to unsheathe his claws and make a true Wolverine movie. My review here: link

A its core it is about family and the different types of groups that can be called family. The primary lesson I got out of it was, "The family that slays together stays together"!

It has the right amount of violence for a Wolverine movie and it has the right message too. No spoilers but Wolverine has nightmares about having killed people. To paraphrase Nietzsche, those who look into the abyss find the abyss looking back into them. A famous movie speech about this theme is featured in the film, and to show the lesson is learned, at the end, is repeated to describe Wolverine by another of the protagonists.
