Saw this last night – before Viola Davis got her well deserved Oscar – was quite surprised that there were only 7 people at the screening (myself included!).

It's a long and stagey film – well it is adapted from a play – but it's mostly a gripping drama about thwarted ambition and familial strains. The baseball metaphors did get a bit wearying after we'd topped 100 minutes – during the big argument between Troy and Rose where Troy justifies himself through a convoluted baseball analogy it did make me wonder just when Rose was going to tell him to shut his trap in no uncertain terms!

Overall though, good story, very well acted, well worth seeing.

Saw the movie. About half-way through, I began waiting
for 'I coulda been a contenda !'

Different strokes, etc.

Strange. I was thinking the same things you guys were. Then, when the credits rolled, I started crying. I haven't cried at a movie since ET. I think it hit a little close to home.
