The great Mary Tyler Moore, whose entertainment career spanned approximately 60 years. Here is one of her first acting "gigs" in 1954 at age 17 as "Happy Hotpoint" for Hotpoint dishwashers: YouTube link Growing up in the '70s, my family and I saw 'The Dick Van Dyke Show' in syndication on weekday evenings, and my sister and I saw 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show' every Saturday night. In the early-'80s, I saw the Oscar-winning movie 'Ordinary People' on cable, and Ms. Moore's performance as a grieving, bitter, and cold mother was nothing short of outstanding; at the time, it was somewhat difficult for me to separate the movie's character from her past beloved roles. By the way, according to Wikipedia, one of her paternal ancestors was a Confederate officer, Lt. Col. Lewis Tilghman Moore of Virginia, who offered his home to Maj. Gen. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson as a headquarters from November 1861 until March 1862. Godspeed, Ms. Moore, and thank you very, very much. |
