Apparently the lessons of simple and reliable weapons and logistics systems learned during the second world war have fallen by the wayside….hopefully not awaiting to be rediscovered.

Well, I suppose it could be useful in some situations. I recall numerous incidents in WWII where the army tried (unsuccessfully) to send medical supplies and radio batteries to troops who had become surrounded using small planes and empty artillery rounds. These things look like they might work better.
