I just came out of Rogue One when I heard the news. Star Wars Celebration won't be the same this year. :-( She was too young. |

This one particularly stings. Like Bill said, it does feel like a family member has passed. But, like so many other boys and young men at the time the original 'Star Wars' was released, Carrie Fisher was the embodiment of their "first crush", in addition to her "girl next door" looks. She wasn't my first nor only crush, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel anything when I saw her on screen, or anywhere else. As for her penultimate role, "Leia" was perfectly cast: a seemingly demure princess by appearance, but a girl, and later, a young woman with spunk and determination when cornered and challenged. When talk of a new 'Star Wars' with the original cast began, then-recent photos of our "old friends" began to be seen online. Carrie Fisher had aged hard, apparently from years of smoking and self-admitted drug and alcohol abuse. Originally, she began filming her 'Star Wars' scenes during the spring of 1976, when she was just 19. It doesn't seem that long ago. In such a short life, Carrie Fisher became an iconic actress, thanks to an equally iconic role. The 'Star Wars' universe and franchise will, of course, go on. But it will go on fondly remembering a princess who helped save a galaxy….and touched many, many lives throughout the world. Godspeed, Ms. Fisher. and thank you VERY, very much.

Awful, awful news. Like y´all say, she was much too young to go. Of course, she was Princess Leia, but I really loved her in The Blues Brothers. The role was rather small, but she was great! RIP |

Oddly I was not a Princess Leia fan until a few years ago. At my current job there was a young lady whose face bears an uncanny resemblance (doesn't hurt that she is cute too…) |

So, Carrie Fisher is dead on a plane. Never woke up from the CPR concerned citizens applied. Her mom, Debbie Reynolds, is 84. "I thought she was dead", was my reaction to her name popping up. Heh, that happens a lot, to a witless bunny: I'd rather be a witless bunny than plugged into gossip rags and TV. And Reynolds has even stayed in the "business". There's a documentary of mom and daughter coming out in March, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. And she's done one to several pictures or voiceovers a year, more or less, going back to 1987; then there was a dry spell back to 1974. That's probably when I stopped hearing about her. I remember her best in Goodbye Charlie and The Unsinkable Molly Brown. And here I thought she was dead. And instead her daughter is dead. And I had totally forgotten that Carrie Fisher is Debbie Reynolds' daughter. Heh! "The Force" used to be something cool and metaphysical. Then George Lucas "got a hold of it" (!) and turned it into an element in the blood stream. Or something equally incongruent with Obi Wan's original "explanation" of what "The Force" is/was. So, blood isn't going to help Ms Fisher where she's gone, ergo, no "MTFBWY". Possibly, as she's been "twinkled", she will appear beside Alec and Henson, et al. in a lineup of shiney disembodied "Jedi". To whom she might appear is up to her, or "The Force". Whatever……………………. |

She also did quite the self-parody in the late 1970's when she guested on SNL,in a "Beach Party movie" skit, with her Leia character as an exchange student, and even sang some("The New Kid On Earth")in the skit.joined by Bill Murray,Gilda Radner(as Frankie and Annette),Garrett Morris(as Chubby Checker)John Belushi(as Eric von Zipper),Dan Aykroyd as Vincent Price. Rest easy, thanks for being, and may you find peace. |
Who asked this joker | 28 Dec 2016 9:26 a.m. PST |
I heard an interview of her on NPR a few weeks ago plugging her latest…now last book "The Princess Diarist". This is one I will be picking up in the near future. She was quite a funny lady. She had a one woman show. A monologue of her life including all the events of her life as a Star Wars main character. To say "I feel like I've lost a family member…" is spot on. It's like losing Carry Grant or James Stewart all over again. Too young. Rest in peace Ms. Fisher. You were an underrated, funny lady. |
