New trailer up:

YouTube link

Looks pretty awesome TBH, very good cast… and nice to see this story being retold because I'm going to guess few in the USA have a clue about it.

Hope it does well.

And, albeit accidentally, it's certainly of its time…:)

Looks good! Airplanes, Stukas! Yes indeed.

Your comment about "few in the US have a clue abut it" will not be appreciated by those who do and that will include most, if not all, of our US members.

I am looking forward to the movie but don't expect massive audience turnouts

Thing is he is right that the majority of Americans have no clue what:

Happened at Dunkirk
Where Dunkirk was
Who was fighting

They go to school and then to college but they still have no clue about what happened in the past or why those things happened.

I would put most Americans down as being Totally Clueless about world events or what is happening now across the planet.

This ignorant American is going to see it in the theater when it comes out. It looks fabulous and apparently little old me needs some learnin'. Golly, I sure hope they use bullet time in the action scenes.

I saw the trailer the other day. Have to agree with everyone's assessment, this flick looks to be a good one!

yes. Have not been to a theater in years, but WILL
go to see this one.

In addition to Mitmee's 3 about which most Americans
are clueless, I'd add a fourth – they have no idea
and could not care less, as to why the evacuation
was important !

Toronto48 – it was a comment based on a fairly extensive survey of US reviews on Youtube where the reviewers (with one honourable exception) said they didn't know much, if anything about the story.

Hence getting the film to feature Harry Styles of One Direction is genius… it'll draw in an audience who don't often see this kind of thing.

Assuming, of course, young Styles can act.

How many non-US viewers would know a lot about the American Civil War?

But I look forward to seeing this.

In truth most Gen-whatevers know very little of most world affairs and could care less unless their favourite mouthpiece is distorting the facts and revving them up to care, these sackofs get more excited about the latest iggiphone 12 or some such.
Dunkirk is mainly for us the ones (in all parts of the world) who care about the past, the present and the future in true context to humanity and its endeavours. My hope it is portrayed properly and although I am not opposed to fiction within the events (it is a movie after all) let's hope that it entertains and educates all who watch it. I'll give it a go as soon as its available.

I didn't know this movie was coming. Just a few days ago I was talking to a teen in our church and who games with us about Dunkirk and he didn't know a thing about it. I am taking him to England next summer for his graduation from H.S. and I told him we are going to Dover also, where he can get a glimpse of it.
Every year I take some kids to Historical places either in the U.S. or overseas so they can get the feel for History. Yah, that's where most of my business profits go. It's amazing that this movie is coming out about the same time I am going there. Great timing!

Who asked this joker16 Dec 2016 7:37 a.m. PST

Where are the French and Belgian troops BTW? They made up a significant portion of the evacuated men?

Bangorstu16 Dec 2016 8:54 a.m. PST

Joker – I've heard a rumour that the fate of the French may (or may not!) be a major part of the film… time will tell..

ScottWasburn – reasonable point of course, though I think most people know it happened…Hollywood ensures that most people have, I'd guess, a vague diea about American history, or a version of it.

I'd guess most Europeans know more American history than the reverse. But then, if your ancestry isn't European, why should you care?

My point wasn't that Americans are ignorant, merely that it's an interesting film to be made given it's an obscure subject for the main audience groups.

Hopefully it'll provide some much needed edjumacation…in this country as well.

It does raise the horrific what-if about had Goering been less boastful or german tanks more reliable….

I came across the trailer this morning and was very impressed. Thank goodness a first-class director, producer and writer like Nolan is doing it!

It is a story that needs to be told, especially from the viewpoint of the troops on the beaches and the people who rescued them.

Weasel16 Dec 2016 6:08 p.m. PST

Talked to an old guy the other day who thought France had surrendered the second the Germans cracked the border, so I don't know why everyone is bagging on the kids.

Trailer looks cool.

I'm quite sure your average norwegian know more about the American civil war. Than they know about Great Northern war, or the wars with Sweden in the 1809/1814
