But instead of me sitting looking at my desktop to watch, what format could I use to put on a DVD and view as a DVD.

OR, conversely…I have a SMART TV, could I download one of the above versions, plug it into my spare data stick port and watch it from there? (If so, please refer to my first question).

You'll need video converter software. There are many free online. Search for [file format] to dvd converter 2016.
I would also look at if there are other file format choices like mpeg4 or avi for download. You may have better luck with those.

Thanks Schogun, appreciated. Do you know of any reputable online converters? I hate to end up getting spammed or worse from a shadow website.

I don't offhand, but I would trust recommendations from Tom's Guide, Digital Trends or maybe CNET.
