Yes, unfortunately. Apparently, the chute detached too early and the rockets didn't burn long enough to slow the descent, so the probe has probably left a decent impact crater. It should be a nice collectible when humans finally get to Mars, though! The orbiter did work correctly, though, and is in orbit, so the mission wasn't a complete loss. |
