Tilly passed at 8:30AM PST from organ failure due to a combination of core overheating and the stress of multiple seizures over the course of the previous evening leading into the morning.

She was a homebody, never comfortable ranging or in high places, but a lovely, empathetic & appreciative family member, and she will be missed. She had never had any medical issues until two months ago.

Tilly had been experiencing seizures for about two months, the first time we took her in and after treatment and testing found she was overproducing red blood cells, they were at a critical high level. Some medication was prescribed, but we were warned with this syndrome, it was equal chances she never has them again, they are reduced in severity, or keeps on having them.

The seizures stopped for a month before she had another, we took her in again, and her bloodwork was not in the danger range. She started experiencing more seizures, but much less pronounced or severe almost weekly. I ordered some Canna-pet after hearing about the success others experienced with it regarding pet seizures.

The vet prescribed phenobarbital, but we were determined to give the less extreme choice a chance to work before looping her out.

Last night she succumbed to six separate minor seizures, mostly just a slight head twitch and some drooling, we comforted her, until she had a big one at around 6AM that lasted five minutes, we took her to the vet, on the drive she recovered, but upon entry into the vet, started another bad seizure.

We knew going in this morning we would have to decide whether for everyone's peace of mind we might have to ease her passing. No one, animal or person, deserves to have their life interrupted in spasms of fear and panic as they loose control of themselves.

She was on O2 and pheno when she passed, with attendants doing their best to help where they could, so did not feel much of anything.

She will be missed.

I am very sorry to hear this. Very sorry.

Thank you all.

Even her sister knew today was different. All the other times, Tabby just was ambivalent towards the seizures, not even curious. This morning she was right at hand, paying attention, watching and pacing. While I was sitting and cradling Tilly in a towel to comfort her, Tabby got up on her hind legs to sniff and touch faces with her sister, despite the foaming at the mouth and spasms.

It is always hard to release a beloved pet, even when it is in their best interests.
But as the attendant told us when we took our 15year old sammy(after we had to put her down) they always stay with us in our hearts. And I am sure Tilly will be with you there.

Sorry to hear of this loss to your family. Unfortunately, I have been there many times. You see I am the father of 2 Daughters and the husband of a wife, who all have over sized hearts. I ALWAYS say no to new pets, but somehow they all end up staying. Right now we have 2 dogs and 4 cats. All either showed up at the house or were rescued somewhere. The last one (a kitten), the wife found in a dumpster behind her office. Of course, they all say, don't worry, you won't even notice they are here. Well…ALL the cats ignore everyone else in the family but me. If I sit to do anything, I am instantly surrounded. In my lap, on my feet. One even tries to climb up my back. Let alone bedtime, where one literally sleeps on my pillow, and must think I am dirty, because he always licks my hair, then commences to sleep on top of my head. I would have it no other way tho. Unfortunately one of the girls is about 15, and has lost a lot of weight, is half blind, and we think is deaf(the climber), other than that she is a normal cat. Eats well, sleeps all the time, gets in the face of anyone who raises their voice, and basically just acts like a cat. They enter our lives as pets and over time become members of the family. Again our hearts go out to you. It is never easy losing someone you love. So sorry.

Mardaddy, thanks for being so good to Tilly, especially
in her last days.

My deepest sympathy on your loss.

You first posted about Tilly (as Tilla) I think in
May, 2009 or perhaps April. You were looking for
young cats since 'Buster' was getting older.

Again, thanks for choosing Tilly (and her sister,
Tabby) from the litter born to someone's queen and
for taking such good care with her.

Sorry to hear about Tilly. We've lost both our cats this year, so I know what you going through.

Mardaddy20 Oct 2016 3:46 p.m. PST

Thank you again all. We've got some tummy fur clippings and paw prints that will be included with photos and other knick knacks in a scrap book my wife will be putting together.

My wife loved the pattern and coloration of Tilly's tummy fur, and her right front paw had a mutation – an extra claw grows out of one of the pads. She was our "fat-little-mutant-kitty," and our, "Tilly-bear."

Captain Gideon21 Oct 2016 8:42 p.m. PST

Mardaddy I'm very sorry for your loss.

I lost my Beloved Cat Yuki last year June 10th I had her for close to 15 years or more, you could say that she adopted me.

Before Yuki came I had lost my previous Cat Mei-Ling and also my Mother as well so I was more or less alone.

And I truly believe that Yuki knew I needed someone so that's why she came to me.

She was a joy to have her as long as I did and there's never been a day when I haven't thought of her.

I have taken many pictures of her over the years but sadly I was never able to film her so I could still hear her.

With the help of some very good friends I was able to have her buried with Mei-Ling at the Pet Cemetary.

I miss her terribly.

You have my condolences for your loss.

Michael
