or the power of Hollywood…

Because every other possible "concern" in California has already been solved.

So, as an example, this would free actress Helen Mirren into portraying a 20-something millennial?:

They don't call it "Hollyweird" for nothing!

God luck with this since it will still be out on the internet.

Brown is showing that he has gone totally loony.

First Cow Farts and now this.

Isn't there more important things to do?

Uhhh…Brown signed it; he did not propose it. It may seem odd, weird or useless to "others", but there may be a very legitimate reason behind this.

Did anyone here have a cow over the governor of N. Carolina signing a restrictive voters rights bill into law?

Seems like a case of harrumphing over an ox being gored after the fact and you didn't even know the ox existed prior to said harrumphing. Are you really affected by this?

Is IMDb based in California?
Does California have jurisdiction?

We don't rely on IMDb, we always have Wikipedia.

Can't imagine anyone is surprised by this.

Ultimately I suspect some actors would like the producers to be forced to hire them without an audition, sight unseen, or they could charge them with "Lack of Talentism". wink

I think they should get a percentage of every movie release even if they were not associated with it. In fact, they should be forced to accept the money even if they don't want it.

Unless the credits and photos are removed as well it shouldn't be too difficult to get around this.

As that photo of Mirren shows, it is unlikely that she would be called to audition for the role of Pippi Longstockings or Little Red Riding Hood.

With a list of credits that includes – 'Press for Time (1966)' – even without current photos she isn't those ingenue roles either.

Same with whatever unknown actor that this bill is aimed to help.

Besides with the advances in computer graphics they'll all be casting all of the past greats in films of the future anyway.

I have so many questions.

What other facts will it become illegal to post on the internet?

What if the website is not managed or hosted in California?

Won't this just nudge IMDB towards putting it's servers in a less regulated country?

Do people really think this is going to change Hollywood's youth obsession one iota?

Does the government not realize there are real issues, economic and safety issues, that it has an obligation to address instead of wasting effort providing a think bit of protection for a small group in an isolated industry?

Has no one learned that restricting information necessarily helps the strong and hurts the weak?

Information wants to be free.

This is stupid. And I bet it's not even the stupidest thing they did in Sacramento this week.

This only affects unknown actors who look younger than their age. link Hollywood has no problem hiring actors to fill younger roles if they're recognizable, within reason of course (if they look young enough to pass themselves off in those roles).

But if two no name actors vie for a role that leans young, and neither of whom stand out relative to the other in an audition, the casting director would most likely go with the younger person. It's is what it is.

When has that ever stopped intrusive busybodies who know better or who have been bribed to get involved?
