link Michael Phelps just broke a 2100 year old Olympic record. Yeah yeah. I know. He didn't have to wear Hoplite armor for a 200m swimming sprint, but still impressive. |

FYI There were several foot races in the Ancient Olympics The first and original, was the Stadion, that ran one length of the ancient course whose distance of about 200 meters was called a stadion This is where we get our word Stadium A longer race ,Diaulos , was added It was up and down the stadion or two stadions, about 400 metres A third race the Dolichos was the Olympic marathon and was 20 -24 stadions or about 4000 metres An athlete who won all three was called a Triastes and that is what Leonidas accomplished and more than once So based on this I still feel that Leonidas is the better athlete having won his medals in multiple distances To be in the same league Phelps would have to consistently win some longer distance races such as the 1500 freestyle or 10Km marathon The race in hoplite armor, Hoplitodromos, was separate and was a probably a stadion in length and had 25 participants |

Leo didn't have freeky feet with doublejoints. And what's with the "cupping"?? |
Winston Smith | 12 Aug 2016 1:55 p.m. PST |
Cupping? No. Leonidas used leeches. |

Waiting for the accusations of doping (not the kind he smoked) and performance enhancers. Not that I think he's done that, but sport is a very nasty thing these days and a lot is said to stir the pot. |

Was he potting then? Not cupping. |
