Yup to all above. Penny was in a sitcom early in her career and wanted to quit when everybody else got a pay raise but she didn't. Gary told her to bide her time, she was too young and inexperienced to make demands. They would just write her out of the story. When Laverne and Shirley hit it big and it was time to negotiate a contract, she went to Gary and said 'Now?'. As she said later, 'They paid a lot for not giving me a raise back then.'

He made fun shows.

Gentle humor and soft romance – he more or less put both Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman) and Anne Hathaway (Princess Diaries) on the map.

I think he may have had some fun with himself with his films – in Pretty Woman, when Richard Gere is lost and obviously not in Beverly Hills and asks a guy on the street (off screen) where it was Marshall's voice replies "You're here. This is Stallone's place." Don't remember where he is in Princess Diaries, but in the sequel, he's on screen briefly as a part of the royal band.

Thanks so much, and rest easy. You made a lot of us smile.

I enjoyed many of his movies. My favorite cameo was in "Hocus Pocus" with Penny as his wife. Funny guy and a good director. RIP
