I haven't seen this yet. It may or may not be out to the public actually. Here is a review.

It does contain spoilers. The guy is pretty honest. If you are at work you may have to turn the sound down. I listened to it at work without any problems but I guess it depends on where you work.

I'm pretty convinced that I'll wait until it arrives on Netflix to see it. I was thinking that anyway.

Although with all the hype it could be a movie that makes money from being so bad. Like it is so bad that everyone wants to see how bad it is.

Winston Smith09 Jul 2016 8:06 a.m. PST

Sorry, but I refuse to watch "reviews" by some dude talking into his computer while wearing a ball cap.

The original movies were fun, goofy and silly.
I have heard that this one is … edgy. I hate edgy.

Pictors Studio09 Jul 2016 10:09 a.m. PST

You don't have to apologize to me, you're the one missing out. The review is not intentionally funny but it is probably better than the movie.

Inkpaduta09 Jul 2016 11:57 a.m. PST

My guess it will do well the first week or two because of the
advertising and hype but then crash after word of mouth gets out.

No interest in this remake, or most others for that matter.

PzGeneral09 Jul 2016 4:38 p.m. PST

Doesn't the trailer have a record number of thumbs down on Youtube?

PzGeneral09 Jul 2016 4:40 p.m. PST

I just looked, the official trailer has over 900,000 thumbs down….

Militia Pete10 Jul 2016 4:54 a.m. PST

My thoughts are the more times you see a movie trailer on tv, the higher the suckability. Think of all those stinker movies and how every 2 seconds another trailer. Sometimes back to back…

Inkpaduta10 Jul 2016 11:04 a.m. PST

Totally agree with you Militia Pete, that is how I judge an upcoming too. Especially if it is to be a comedy.

Mithmee11 Jul 2016 12:31 p.m. PST

the official trailer has over 900,000 thumbs down…

Yup, this is new movie is going to be the biggest flop of the year.

Norrins11 Jul 2016 1:32 p.m. PST

Just got back from seeing it. I'll get shot down for saying this, but I enjoyed it and yes I am a fan of the original. Nowhere near the worst film I have seen (that dishonour goes to Human Centipede) and certainly not worth the campaign of hate against it. It won't win any awards, but I came out of it with a smile on my face.

Pictors Studio11 Jul 2016 10:25 p.m. PST

Norrins, did you watch the review I posted? If so do you think any of what he said was justified? Is there chemistry between the actresses?

I was wondering if that was a fair comment. In a team like this you wouldn't necessarily need "chemistry." They don't have to click for it to work. From his review he almost makes it sound like it is worth seeing for the Chris Hemsworth parts alone. is he that funny?

I'm glad you were willing to post an alternative view.

Norrins12 Jul 2016 5:17 a.m. PST

I watched the review after seeing the movie and got to say he must have seen a different movie to me. This movie reboots Ghostbusters for a new generation and should be treated as such. I think the film does well in treading the fine line between acknowledging the original film whilst reinventing it for a new audience.

Worth pointing out that it does contain cameos from 5 of the original film actors.

In answer to your comments –
Yes, there is chemistry between the actresses, especially between Melissa McCarthy & Kristen Wiig. For once, Melissa McCarthy is quite restrained. Yes, there is some man bashing but it's humorous and I laughed at the jokes.

Chris Hemsworth is funny – he essentially plays a ditzy blond secretary! He has some great scenes and he's key to the plot in the last 1/3 of the movie. Watch the end credits for some really funny scenes involving him.

The CGI is mixed. I thought the ghosts were well done and where I do agree with the reviewer is the effects for the pivotal plot point in the film do look ropy. I think it's not helped that Melissa McCarthy & Kristen Wiig don't seem comfortable with acting in front of a green screen.

There was some cosplayers at my showing and they all left gushing about it. The most telling comment I heard was it "doesn't matter if they're male or female (Ghostbusters), it's an enjoyable film". Even my Mrs (who dislikes the original) enjoyed this version.

Stay for the whole of the credits for a scene that sets up the sequel with a nod to the original.

Hope that helps.

I watched the review and I will never go see this movie.

Come the main Villian is a guy who kills himself and comes back as a ghost.

Then in the end he changes into the StayPuff Marshmallow Man.

Then since this movie is about Male bashing they finished him off by shooting into his groin area.

This movie is going to lose money and lots of it.

Norrins13 Jul 2016 2:06 a.m. PST

There's a reason the main villain kills himself and comes back as a ghost. Also, he doesn't turn into the Stay Puff Marshmellow man. Stay Puft appears in a ghostly version of a ticket tape parade.

SPOILER – What the main villain does in turn himself into a giant scary version of Casper the ghost – due to his hatred of the Ghostbusters. Yes they do shoot him in the groin and the audience I was with found it humorous.

Mithmee14 Jul 2016 12:30 p.m. PST

Still is Male Bashing and a horrible movie.

Captain Gideon15 Jul 2016 7:14 a.m. PST

I heard China won't allow it to be shown in their Country.

I hope this movie BOMBS big time.

lugal hdan18 Jul 2016 11:18 a.m. PST

I though it was greatly entertaining.

Mithmee18 Jul 2016 1:30 p.m. PST

It going to and without China it not going to do all that well on the international market either.

It made $46 USD Million on it first weekend and now it got to deal with:

Star Trek Beyond that is coming out this Weekend

Jason Bourne the following weekend

&

Suicide Squad on the next weekend

It will only go downhill from here.

Oh with this the expectation of future movies will go right down the drain.

Greyalexis21 Jul 2016 8:37 a.m. PST

I just don't understand why they did not put it out in halloween

Mithmee21 Jul 2016 4:03 p.m. PST

It a horrible movie not a horror movie.

But with Star Trek out tomorrow and then those other two movies it is toast.

My wife and I just saw the "new" Ghostbusters movie and both of us give it TWO thumbs up!! It is funny and a worthy successor to the original movie. The four new ghostbusters are hilarious. The cameos by the three surviving Ghostbusters as well as Annie Potts and Sigourney Weaver are delightful. Plus the return of Slimer and the Michelin Man add even more. Be sure to stay all the way through the credits because there is a scene at the very, very end that should not be missed. We laughed throughout and left with smiles and good feelings.

Go and see this if you haven't already. You will not be disappointed.

And yes, I did (and still do) enjoy the original. This one was a worthy successor.

Well after tanking at the box office (as expected) it looks like this movie is looking at a $70 USD plus Million.

So that planned sequel is more than likely not going to happen.

So I will be right and this will be the biggest flop of the year.

Two thumbs up from my wife and I. See, we actually watched the movie instead of forming opinions from the pre-movie reviews of a thirteen basement dwellers with a thousand web handles each.
