No political, social, nor cultural statement intended here. Just a simple observance of respect to those officers of the Dallas Police and the Dallas Area Rapid Transit whose end of watch came last night and this morning, and also a quiet prayer for their families.

Godspeed.

Appalling. My condolences to the families of all those who have died in the past several days. I was impressed by the professional response of the DPD.

My criminal investigator, Rick Berry is a former Dallas Homicide Investigator. Rick's police academy friend named Michael Smith was one of the officers killed last night. He was a great man and a great officer. The Dallas Police Association has a sub-organization called Assist the Office provides assistance to all police officers in the Dallas metro area. They provide a death benefit for officers killed in the line of duty and also offer counseling services to officers who need them. God knows that there will be many officers in Dallas that will need counseling. A direct donation can be made through the website at atodallas.org or by mailing a check to:

Assist the Officer
1412 Griffin Street East
Dallas, TX 75215

We would appreciate If the donations could be made in the name of Officer Michael Smith. Thank you.

May they and their loved ones be in our prayers and may their contribution be remembered.

My son is Columbus, Ohio PD. They are some of the best trained in the country. We say a prayer for his safety every day. I am going to add an editorial comment here. All of those protestors ran and wanted to have the police protect them. Not one of them came to the assistance of any of the downed officers. God Bless the Soul of any downed officer. TIG

Six brothers killed in 24 hours. Five in Dallas and one in Georgia. God help and protect us.

"The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep….
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't…..I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."
