HARDY, Irad B. III "Terry" Of Stratford, CT, died unexpectedly on Sunday, June 5, 2016, aged 73. He was the husband of Jean Callahan Hardy. The oldest son of Dr. and Mrs. Irad B. Hardy Jr., he was born in Boston and raised in Waltham. He graduated Waltham High School in 1961, and was a 1965 graduate of Harvard College, where he lettered in football and was a member of the 1776 Hasty Pudding club. A long time automotive industry executive, analyst, and consultant, he served as an Executive Vice President for National Car Rental from 1987 to 1997, and Director of Strategic Operations for AutoNation Inc. from 1997 to 2000. In recent years he worked as an independent consultant with numerous auto dealerships in Florida and the Tri-State area. In the 1970s he was a well-known war games designer, serving as director of research and development for Simulations Publications Inc., designing the popular games "Dreadnought" and "War in the Pacific", among others. A Friend of Bill's since 1978, he devoted much of his time to sponsoring and helping many other people on their paths to wellness. He was also an avid golfer and amateur historian. He leaves his wife of 22 years, Jean Callahan Hardy of Stratford, CT., a stepson, R. Todd Kidder, a stepdaughter, Kristin K. Hering, his brothers Stephen, Erland, and Peter Hardy, a step-granddaughter, Madeline Hering, and many other relatives and friends. A memorial gathering celebrating Terry's life is being planned for September. Interment will be private. In lieu of gifts, contributions may be made to Friends of Harvard Football, c/o Harvard University Athletic Department, Allston, MA.
