Well, we just saw Ramsey Bolton's 6,000 man army annihilated and Jon Snow's 3,000 man army virtually annihilated. 9,000 men who COULD have helped man The Wall when the White Walkers arrive all gone. It seems that since the story began we've seen the armies of Westeros slowly killing themselves to the point that there's nothing left to stop the Walkers. And it also seems like Littlefinger has been involved in nearly every stage of it. Could he be secretly working for the Night King? :) |

Why, that dirty little….. |

Seriously though, if GoT has taught me anything, it's that the characters' plans don't work. If everything has been going to LF's plans up to now, when it all blows up soon, it should be satisfying. Unless Martin really wants to annoy readers and his plans WILL work out. |

All the dead will soon be added to the WW army. fortunately, they burn. If Dany only loses 1/2 her army crossing the Narrow Sea(tm), she will still have the largest army in Westeros(tm) |

Scott, The trimming of Westeros potential defenders is all part of the plot. The next likely happening is that Jamie will decide the world is over stocked with pond life and slice up the Freys while he and his men are with them. I expect Season 7 to see more of this, along with a tidy up of internal plot lines so that Jon Snow is in a position to be forced into leading a combined army of whoever is left, in a last stand against Mr Freeze. Where upon the Team Dany will turn up to save the day. She and Jon will then get hitched and become the Seven Kingdoms very own Ferdinand and Isabella, with everyone's favourite short person as Chief Minister! If this means a Season 8, as half expected, no one will be surprised, although I half suspect that it really depends now on the commercial considerations around the Bearded One actually getting his final books out. BTW: Winston, don't forget we are no longer sure what Martin wants. Regarding the TV series we are in free flight. |

Well, we still have some prophesies to fulfill. Tommon has to die and apparently Cersei is going to fire-bomb Kings Landing. There was someone's dream (Danny? Bran?) showing a burned-out throne room. So Dany may arrive in Westeros against no opposition at all. And after all the build-up Bran has to defeat the Night King. I could see Dany's dragons helping destroy the dead army, but Bran has to have some role to play. Personally I'm betting that in the finale Bran gets captured by the Night King and the zombified Hodor is given a piece of dragon glass to drive into Bran's heart and turn him into a White Walker, but Bran using his already demonstrated ability to control Hodor takes control and has him drive the dragon glass into the Night King instead, destroying him. Oh yeah, somehow the Hound and Arya have to be given things to do, too! :) |

Scott were Sisyphus's and Eric's magic swords Valyrian steel? Maybe there is something for us old campaigners to do too. |

I figure three fire breathing dragons should make short work of the walkers. |

Trajanus: book 6 isnt the final book, just the next one. GRRRRRRRRRRM has stated so in countless interviews. His own passing may cause it to be the last book but it wont be the end of the story. All of you are predicting happy endings. You've not been paying attention.

We're only predicting happy endings because GRRM isn't writing this anymore :) |

Yeah I know there are two books to go – so glad I've never been tempted to read the other five! What I meant is that the whisper has been GRRM was talked into an agreement with HBO that the series would end on its own timescale and along lines he could live with but possibly with a different conclusion to what the last two books might have. Now of course the "different ending" part could be bull poo to protect book sales but it still means the timeing of the last two series and realease of the books (or end of the World – whichever comes first) need to be co-ordinated or those who are viewers and readers are going to now the end before they read it. Or not, or both! |

The show is a mere shadow of the books as far as subplots and character development go. |

Thank the gods for that, since if they had faithfully recreated the books (especially the later books bloated with pointless characters and all their pointless stories) subplots and character development we would have barely moved the story along at all. I've read and own the books, but its not like I'm clamouring to read the next instalment from GRRM any more or indeed any other books he's released instead of writing the next damn book. If nothing else I can thank the show for actually revealing curly's (and dragon girl) fate and actually moving along to an eventual conclusion in the main story……long since given up on GRRM ever finishing the story. |
